Health & Social Care

BTEC Health and Social Care Award is a two year course. It comprises of four units in total, two of which are completed in Year 10 and two in Year 11. Three of the units are assessed in school and completed as coursework based tasks. These units are:

Unit 6 The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing

Unit 5 Promoting Health and Wellbeing 

Unit 2 Health and Social Care Values

There is one externally assessed exam unit which is taken at the end of Year 10. It is Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development. 

Pupils studying this course often go on to study Health and Social Care at A Level/ Level 3 and often pursue careers in nursing, midwifery, primary school teaching and psychology.


BTEC FIRST AWARD IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

This course is designed to develop knowledge and understanding in Health and Social Care and focuses on:-

  1. Providing opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge in Health and Social Care practice and provision.

  2. Developing the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners to meet the needs of the Health and Social Care sectors.

  3. The role of the Health or Social Care worker, their relationship with patients and their responsibilities towards patients.

  4. Providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.

The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing

Looks at the effect of balanced and unbalanced diets of life and the nutritional needs at different life stages.
