Coronavirus (COVID-19) Catch-Up Premium

In 2020-21, we received £77,200 of Coronavirus (COVID-19) Catch-Up Premium

How is the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Catch-Up Premium grant spent at Hilbre High School?

Ensuring our students have the best opportunities to catch-up on missed education, caused by the pandemic, is our aim. In 2020-21, we have focused this priority around the core subjects of English and mathematics.

For selected students in years 7 and 8, we have used the funding to create additional catch-up sessions in English, so that our students have improved literacy, which will impact across the curriculum, represented through their ability to write and read comprehensively and with improved fluidity.

Funding has also been used to contribute towards the purchase of Lexia Literacy software and the Step-Up English programme.

For selected students in Year 11, the funding has enabled us to provide additional catch-up sessions in both English and mathematics, aimed specifically in ensuring students have covered the respective GCSE curriculums for these subjects.

Funding has been used to employ tutors through the National Tutoring Programme (Pearson Education) in which selected Year 11 students have been given ten one-hour sessions, taking place after-school, in either English or mathematics.

To support selected SEND students, including students in our Nurture Group, we have purchased GLS Education assessment materials so we are better placed to assess the needs of our young people and adapt teaching, accordingly.

How will the effect of this expenditure on the educational attainment of those pupils at Hilbre High School be assessed?

Each term, we conduct school monitoring in which all students are assessed in their progress across the curriculum. Assessment of student progress in English and mathematics is fundamental in seeing the impact of the initiatives outlined above on the selected students in Years 7 and 8.

For students in Year 11, we expect to see a direct correlation between students in receipt of tutoring through the National Tutoring Programme and their GCSE outcomes in English and mathematics.

What impact has the expenditure had on outcomes in English and mathematics GCSEs in 2020-2021?

With the launch of the National Tutoring Programme, Hilbre subscribed to the tutoring services of Pearson Education.
